Toyota is planning to introduce a diesel V8 powered Tundra in the next 3 years, building the trucks in a plant in San Antonio, Texas. Also in the works is a high efficiency V8 powered version plus a hybrid.
I heard talk of this diesel Tundra ,but was told it would be out in Sept. 2006.I was going to buy a Dodge 3/4 ton diesel but have thought of waiting to see what the 2007 3/4 ton “Tundra” was to be like .Now I;ve just read maybe in 3 years????I presently own a Tacoma 4 wheel drive and have Toyotas repect and I also have a 3/4 ton Ford diesel with almost 300,000 miles, and still runs good.I’m purchasing a 34′ camper and want a new truck that can handle towing it.Please let me know if this is just talk or will there be a 2007 3/4 Tundra diesel and the talk here is we heard that it would make 35 mpg.Any truth to this?
When is Toyota going to introduce a diesel Tundra truck? What engine manufacture is Toyota going to use? Is it also true whatever engine Toyota goes with, it is expected to get 35 mpg?

the dealers say they know of nothing in the way of diesel tundra.
i gave the 5.7L gas version a real life towing test with 7060 pounds against it’s 10,100 maximum rating and it was a very sad performer.
It was loud, weak and my dreams of a crewmax 4×4 went to the trash can.
this is a great looking truck and the interior space of the crew max is better than any suburban, excursion or hummer BUT
IT’S PULLING CAPABILITIES ARE WA—–Y OVERRATED.
It has a tranny that will deliver great mileage at highway speeds but it’s vulnerable aluminum engine block has to work hard to pull anything close to 75% capacity and the exhaust noise was like some kind of teenager’s wannabe muscle-junker.

incidentally, the 5.7L HEMI in the 2500 megacab dodge pulled the same trailer without anywhere near the effort as the toyota and it’s only rated at 8800 pounds. toyota must use a special rating system that compensates for imaginary pulling power.
IF TOYOTA MAKES A DIESEL CREWMAX
THAT WOULD BE THE ABSOLUTE BEST LIGHT DUTY TRUCK ON THE ROAD

The dealers are ALWAYS the LAST TO KNOW. I have know about the Mugen Civic Si for over a year and the dealers are just now finding out.
I thought that the Tundra pulled GREAT with over 7000# behind it. Without a trailer, it is d**n fast with the 5.7. Real fast. I am holding out for the diesel from Toyota. Word is it will be a CAT engine, but I doubt anywhere near 35MPG. If no toyota diesel, I will be holding out until 2009 for the GMC 1500 with the new 4.5 liter duramax that is going to be rated over 300hp, over 500lb-ft, and over 25 mpg.
