Turbine Truck Engines has received the prototype of their 540 horsepower turbine designed to run on gasoline, diesel, propane, natural gas, hydrogen, methanol, ethanol or LPG or combinations of the above as a way to help trucks become more environmentally friendly. It has very few moving parts and the very complete combustion helps increase efficiency while lowering emissions.

Turbine Truck Engines, Inc., a company that manufactures and markets technologically advanced engines, announced today that the TTE 540hp Prototype Detonation Cycle Gas Turbine (DCGT) was delivered to the newly acquired TTE Demonstration Facility last week.
“Cost Cast has demonstrated excellence and impeccable quality control in the construction of this engine,†said Mr. Robert Scragg, owner of Alpha Engines Corp. and inventor of the DCGT. “The end result is outstanding!†he added.
Cost Cast, Inc. (www.CostCast.com) is a high quality casting company that manufactures aluminum sand castings for the aerospace, railroad, OEM, marine, laser-optic guidance system, construction, traffic control, and many other vital industries.
“We are extremely pleased with the job done by Cost Cast,†reported Mr. Michael Rouse, CEO. “All component parts were cast and assembled by their extremely competent team within the framework of our timetable. Alpha is busy completing the remaining final touches on the engine, including the installation of the fuel and ignition systems.â€
Alpha Engines Corp. is under contract with TTE to design, construct and test the 540hp Prototype Engine.
“We are on schedule to begin demonstrations for the benefit of our potential joint venture partners by the end of this month,†Mr. Rouse concluded.
About Turbine Truck Engines Inc.
Turbine Truck Engines, Inc. is a technology company focused on the development, manufacture and testing of its New Energy and Environmental Efficient Truck Engine intended for mass market in the United States and abroad. This new engine design can utilize any known fuel source (gasoline, diesel, propane, natural gas, hydrogen, methanol, ethanol or LPG) or fuel mixture, yet needs zero coolant, lube oil, filters, or pumps. The unique, lightweight turbine design has few moving parts, significantly reducing maintenance costs. The innovative cyclic detonation process produces a complete combustion of fuel-oxidation mixtures, resulting in greater fuel economy and fewer harmful exhaust emissions.
About Alpha Engines Corporation
Alpha Engines Corporation is a technology company specializing in the theory, design, testing and registration of its “New Age†products. In 1997, Alpha Engines filed a patent on the Detonation Cycle Gas Turbine Engine resulting in the patent being granted in 1999. In 2000, Alpha granted Turbine Truck Engines, Inc. exclusive license rights to manufacture and market the DCGT 540 horsepower engine as a new, energy efficient and cost effective alternative heavy-duty truck engine.

One question: is this turbine aircraft-worthy? Or is it too heavy or unreliable to be used in aircraft?
Oliver E says
Is it also possible to use a recuperator with steam turbine turbocharger???

Gentlemn:
Do you have any test results yet? Has thi suni tbeen run in a truck yet? Do you have a torque curve plotted from a dyno test?
I am looking to convert our fleet to Hydrogen fuel and am looking for a truck engine that can do that. Would like to see full specifcation sheet.

turbines were tried before. the performance was lackluster at best. it took awhile for the truck to start to move. i’m told that the average person was faster for the first block and a half.
good luck!
laith says
to mort:its true that turbines lack torque but this is a very diffirent concept since the blades are much diffirent and the gas act more directly on it.

I think hybrid microturbine( maybe combined cycle) rail roader is the best idea for commercial transport..
Ludwig says
Im mean road railer kinda like Mercedes Unimog but little larger, still diesel though, once had woodgas engine..
